You will be responsible for delivering crucial legal support that ranges from paperwork to court proceedings. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to provide servicing on loans across all market segments, enhancing the capabilities of our department and branch staff to deliver excellent service. You will serve as a valuable resource for our internal customers, offering expert guidance on legal matters.

Working Hours: Enjoy a consist schedule of 8am-4:30pm, Monday – Friday providing you with a stable work-life balance.

Location: Based in our corporate headquarters in the East Lansing, MI office, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to the local community while being an integral part of our organization.

Day in the life of a Paralegal

 

  • Document Collection and Facilitation: Working independently to collect, facilitate the review of, and provide specialized lending documents for all market segments to our loan processing staff. You will collaborate closely with all Association departments to meet customer needs, including handling complex and out-of-territory/state transactions.
  • Legal Document Drafting and Review: Drafting, reviewing, and redlining legal documents, contracts, and agreements related to agricultural loans, land transactions, and financial services.
  • Portfolio Management: Managing the Agri-Business Lending and Capital Markets portfolio pipeline, coordinating internal and external legal resources to ensure the smooth execution of transactions.
  • Legal Administration: Manage Legal Tracker, prepare invoices for legal services provided and facilitate proper billing and accounting, prepare and disseminate reports of attorney and other legal service work product, and effectively communicate with various third parties (regulators, government agencies, etc.).
  • Legal Consultation: Providing consultation, direction, and support on a diverse range of legal issues, serving as the first point of contact for internal customers. This includes conducting consultations via phone, email, and other communication channels as a precursor to attorney engagement.
  • Contract Management: Handle contract administration from pre-engagement/signing to tracking and closeout, ensuring delivery of appropriate documents and adherence of obligations by all parties for a well-managed contract management program in partnership with all departments. 
  • Legal Research: Conducting in-depth legal research to assist our attorneys in analyzing statutes, regulations, and case law related to agricultural finance, lending, and related services, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

 

What Experience can you Bring?

  • Bachelor's Degree  required.
  • 2 + years of business or legal office experience required.

 

What sets you Apart?

  • Pre-law or Paralegal Studies preferred.
  • 2 + years paralegal work experience preferred.
  • Communication Expert: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to maintain relationships and provide status updates.

  • Problem Solver: Ability to resolve issues efficiently and effectively.
