In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for ensuring loan-level legal and regulatory compliance, working collaboratively within our Legal Department and the Association. Location: Based in our corporate headquarters in the East Lansing, MI office.

Day in the life of a Compliance Specialist

 

  • Conduct detailed analysis of loan origination data, early disclosures, credit approvals, and various legal documents in real estate transactions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure consistent application of laws, regulations, policies, and procedures within the Legal Department and the Association.
  • Clear exceptions and document actions required to ensure a valid first lien on collateral, maintaining compliance with both state and federal regulations.
  • Provide thorough compliance review of title commitments and collateral analysis.
  • Engage in effective communication with title company representatives, Sales, Operations, Credit, and Appraisal teammates.
  • Conduct audits of the loan origination system to ensure compliance, accuracy, and integrity of loan data for real estate transactions.
  • Draft supporting legal documents in adherence to local statutory and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Review final loan documentation for compliance with FCA Regulations, CFPB regulations, and other applicable state and federal requirements.

 

What Experience do you bring?

  • Associate’s degree
  • 3+ years of experience working with CFPB regulations as they apply to real estate transactions.

 

What sets you Apart?

 

You will really stand out if you have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. Pre-law/paralegal studies major preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience working in a real estate law office, Title Insurance Underwriting, and/or legal department for a residential real estate lender preferred.
